The ceremony will be held where Similkameen River, Chuchuwanteen Creek and Chuwanten Creek merge, which is traditionally known as a training site.

First Nations groups are inviting the public to join them at a ceremony next week.

Representatives from the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB), Upper Similkameen Indian Band (USIB) and Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) will be holding a sməlqmíx water ceremony at Manning Provincial Park at the Monument 78/83 Trailhead on April 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. The ceremony will be held where the Similkameen River, Chuchuwanteen Creek and Chuwanten Creek merge, which is traditionally known as a training site.

This headwater ceremony will help kick-start the sməlqmíx Watershed Assessment Program engagement in a positive way. The project is led by LSIB and USIB in conjunction with the BC Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship and ONA to assess and look after the responsibilities to water.

Lunch will be provided during the ceremony.
