The newest member at the Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre is very popular.
Nugget, a one-month-old black lamb, was made an honourary member at the centre recently.
Sadly, Nugget was rejected by her mother so her human ‘mom’ December Foster took over maternal duties including feeding shortly after she was born. Foster works as a cook at the centre several days a week.
“She needs a bottle three or four times a day, and I cook in the kitchen here Mondays and Tuesdays, so Donna the office manager is kind enough to look after her while I’m working and she just became so popular that we just keep bringing her in. She draws a crowd every time,” Foster said.
There are not too many rules for Nugget, besides staying out of the kitchen. She is known to hang out at the front desk, wander the halls and take long naps in the office. She’s often found playing with members, posing for pictures or nibbling away at paper files.
“I come to check on her all the time and there’s always five or six or 20 people standing around oohing and ahhing and taking pictures and everybody just loves her to death. She’s just a sweet little thing you couldn’t not love her.”
“We hear all the jokes though about lamb chops or mutton stew, but that’s not funny is it?” Foster said jokingly while holding Nugget in her arms.
