When Debbi Bloomingdale talks about the rocks, gems and crystals at Bloomingdale Rock and Gem in Summerland, she describes the properties each has, and the way they can help the body.
She describes the colours, the frequencies they produce and the effects each can have.
“Everything has a purpose,” she says of the rocks in her store. “These are amazing tools to help us through life.”

Bloomingdale has had a lifelong fascination with rocks. When she was growing up, she would collect rocks she found at the sides of the road.
Later, when she was 19, she had a lump in her breast. At that time, her mother gave her a piece of rose quartz. Two weeks later, she said the rose quartz had become clear and her health was good. This experience prompted her to learn more about rocks and their properties.
She adds that while there are healing properties in the rocks she carries, they are not a replacement for doctors and conventional medicine.
The business, which opened in April 2021, has an assortment of rocks and gems in a variety of sizes. The store also provides metaphysical supplies and Bloomingdale does energy work, a holistic practice used for healing.
“Everything is energy, whether we can see it or not,” she said.
She added that the vibrations and frequencies in the rocks, gems and crystals can assist with healing. Some of the rocks are associated with providing confidence, others with insight and others with joy, she said.
