A fundraiser by Granny’s Cafe raised $1,000 to help the Summerland Fire Department’s Toys and Toonies for Tots and Teens toy drive.

Adrienne Betts and Mike Boersma, operators of the cafe, said this is the second time they held the fundraiser.

A year ago, they raised just over $500 from the sale of pulled pork chili and macaroni and cheese during the annual Summerland Festival of Lights in late November.

This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival did not happen, but Betts and Boersma held the fundraising event. The food was free for those in need, or available by donations.

“Most people were very generous,” Boersma said.
