Smart Cities video contest winners announced

Penticton may not have made it into the finals of Canada’s Smart Cities challenge but it still got people in the community thinking, including our youth.

Students of the community got involved by putting their movie-making talents to work showcasing how they think “Technology Help Create Real Connections,” challenged to create short videos of their interpretation of the topic.

The winners of the contest are going to be recognized on June 22 at 3:30 p.m. in the YES Youth Centre building at 501 Main St. The winners will be announced and presented by Mayor Andrew Jakubeit, himself a filmmaker.

The winning submissions win cash prizes for the creators as well as directing a donation to either the YES project or Martin House.

First place, Best Video went to Go Forward by Aasfi Sadeque, winning $200 plus a $150 donation to YES project. First place, Best Message goes to Husain Sattar and Friends, again winning $200 plus a $150 donation to YES project.

Second place for Best Message went to a much younger group, the Grade 4/5 class at Carmi Elementary, overseen by Kent Percevault.

The competition was sponsored by SendOutSupport and the Invictus Entertainment group, with support from the City of Penticton and the Smart Cities Challenge committee, the full videos will be available for viewing at www.sendoutsupport.ca.
