Having a child in need of medical attention hits close to home for Lawes.

Her four-year-old daughter Layna was diagnosed with a heart problem as soon as she was born.

She spent a lot of time in-and-out of hospitals and now has a pacemaker.

But Layna is like any other young child, Lawes said.

“We have her in skating and she loves preschool.”

Last year, Lawes raised $1,150, up from $750 the year before. Her goal is to exceed that amount this year. She will also be dropping by businesses in Princeton to wash people’s cars for a donation.

“The amount donated has gone up each year - I’m hoping to do even better now.”
