The official launch of the mobile bc211 site is set for 211 Day on Feb. 11.

The new mobile site, which was soft-launched last month, will make it easier for people to find free information about community services from their mobile devices.

Now, when mobile users visit bc211.ca, they will land on a page with topics and drop-down menus to narrow their search.

“The new mobile site means that people can find what they’re looking for faster – especially for youth who are heavy users of mobile devices,” said the executive director of bc211, Nathan Wright. “There is no need to download an app to access the information. For some people, needing to download an app can be a barrier.”

In the Okanagan, the free bc211.ca site is made available through a partnership with United Way.

Jude Brunt, community investment manager for United Way, said it “helps connect people with the health and social supports they need, right here in the Okanagan — from help with financial worries, domestic violence, or childcare concerns.”

“We know that many people prefer the anonymity of accessing this information online, so this new mobile service just makes that even easier,” Brunt said.

The service was launched across B.C. in June 2017.

According to bc211, the service has helped more than 5,500 people in the Okanagan since online searching was introduced in the region 18 months ago.

Top searches continue to be housing and homelessness, mental health, health, income and financial assistance, and substance use.
