Keremeos volunteer firefighters recognized for years of service

Firefighters past and presented were recognized with medals at a recent dinner

The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department recognized several of its members for their years of service.

Current members of the department and retired members received awards and recognition for their dedication to the community from fellow firefighters and representatives from the local government.

The awards were presented at the Keremeos VFD spouse appreciation and awards dinner. Some of the awards were overdue and had to be postponed because of the pandemic.

Three generations of the Bosscha family were recognized for their service as volunteer firefighters.

Four retired members of the department received the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association medal. This medal honours volunteer firefighters who have served the community without payment of regular wages or as non-career firefighters. These firefighters have all completed at least 30 years of service in the performance of their duties involving potential risks.

Recognized with the Canadian Volunteer Fire Associations Medal were retired firefighters Walter Despot, Red Bosscha, Greg Eaton and John Sladen. Active-duty fire chief Jordy Bosscha and firefighter Bill Sparkes were also recognized with the medal for their service.

Firefighter Tim Cottrill was recognized for over 25 years of firefighting service, with time in Summerland and over 20 years in Keremeos.

Also recognized for years of service were Mathew Campbell, who reached 10 years in April 2022, and Keifer Bosscha, who reached five years of service in July, 2019.

Regional District directors George Bush and Tim Roberts alongside acting Keremeos Mayor Arden Holly presented the awards.
