Johnson, Edith Valentine ‘Vally’ (nee Lewis)
There are things that we don’t want to happen
But have to accept
Things we don’t want to know
But have to learn
And people we can’t live without
But have to let go.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother on Saturday, February 6, 2010. After a six month battle with cancer, Vally passed away at home in Vernon, BC with her family at her side.
Born in Barrhead, AB on February 14, 1935, Vally was the very first Valentine baby ever to be born in the local hospital. She was raised in Summerland, BC and married her childhood sweetheart, Raymond Johnson, on February 23, 1952. Together, Ray and Vally spent the majority of their married life in Princeton and Barriere before retiring to Vernon in 1989.
Her husband, her family and her home were very precious to Vally. Each of her four children meant the world to her as did her sons and daughters-in-law; every grandchild held a special place in her heart. She never missed an event, no matter how big or small.
Vally will be forever missed by Raymond, her loving husband and best friend of 58 years and their four children, Shyrl Kennedy (Michael) and sons, Blair & Kyle Desjardins; Calvin Johnson (Maxine) and sons Bradley and Sheldon; Shelly McDonald (Rod), daughter, Rae-Lynn and son Dustin; Darren Johnson (Lisa) and children, Kyla, Kalin, Joshua and Jordyn. Vally is also survived by sisters, Lela (Al) Harvey, Wilma Carty, Agnes (Kelly) Howard, and Donna Seward; sisters-in law, Phylis Johnson and Tillie Sundstrom, as well as numerous friends and relatives.
Raymond and his family would like to thank Dr. Chris Cunningham and staff, Dr. Blythe, Dr. Hardy, and the staff of the Vernon Cancer Clinic, the North Okanagan Community Care nurses, Murray Coughtry, Palliative Care Coordinator and the caring London Drugs
pharmacy staff.
A memorial service was held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BC.
Condolences to the family may be emailed to
