March 28 1951 – February 17 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, spouse, grandfather and friend. John was born in North Vancouver on March 28, 1951. He married his high school sweetheart Jeannie Devlin in May of 1971. The start of their journey began when they purchased a ranch in 100 Mile House in 1978. The family then moved to Clearwater in 1981 where John took a job teaching at Clearwater Secondary School. In his nearly 25-year career at Clearwater Secondary John coached both girl’s and boy’s basketball. He devoted countless hours of his time because he loved helping the kids compete but most of all cherished the life long relationships he built with his players. They affectionately called him “Big Daddy”, a nickname that was not only due to his stature but also the size of his heart. John also enjoyed coaching and refereeing his boys in hockey and served as the president of Clearwater minor hockey. After his retirement, John moved with Jeannie to Princeton BC and spent a lot of summers on his boat based out of Pender Harbour and fishing out of Port McNeil. John was a remarkable man with a booming voice and will be missed by all who knew him. John was predeceased by his parents John Walker and LeEtta Williamson, step father William Hay and sisters Joanna Boer and Linda Detzler. John leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Jeannie Walker; sons Oliver, Andrew (Melissa), Darren (Carly) and Graham; his brother David (Helen) Hay and Dianne (David) Miles; his 10 grandchildren, life long friend Denovan Hill along with numerous in-laws, extended family and friends. A wake to celebrate Johns life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Princeton BC on Friday March 17 at 12:00pm. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation in Johns name be made to your local minor sports association.
