Spring is pot hole season, and the town is receiving between two and three reports of pot holes each day. Many of those callers are reporting the same problem areas.

In case your car hasn’t already told you - Princeton’s biggest pot hole problem is popping up on Tulameen Avenue, near the Brown Bridge.

“We’ve been getting quite a few calls about that area, according to Jamie Umpleby, works and infrastructure director.

It is definitely pot hole season, he added.

“Spring is the worst time, when the frost comes out of the ground. The water freezes and it expands.”

Residents can use the town website to report pot holes or call the town office.

Staff receive two to three complaints a day, said Umpleby.

“Sometimes all three calls will be for the same pot hole,” he explained.

Over the past year some drivers have complained about pot holes damaging their vehicles, said Umpleby, for example by destroying a tire.

Umpleby said he can only recall one case where a car owner filed a claim against the town for tire damage.

Pot hole repair comes out of the department’s road maintenance budget, which is $45,000 annually.

At this time of year town crews are only able to cold-patch holes in the road.

“It works for a while but it’s a temporary fix…When summer rolls around we can mill it out and repair it the hot mix way.”
