A $315,000 project to beautify Princeton, announced by town council earlier this month has - temporarily at least - sidelined previous plans to construct an oudoor pavilion on the former Bugnut property.

Gary Schatz, director of economic development and tourism, said his department is “still exploring some options for that. We have a few ideas of what might work for that Bugnut area.”

The Bugnut building at the corner of Vermilion Avenue and Bridge Street was demolished last May.

The property is owned by the municipality and plans were put in place to construct a wooden social pavilion on the small lot, featuring a sitting area and fire pit.

The new beautification program will see the erection of two wooden gateways in the town centre, and the placing of 12 bronze statues with wildlife themes.

“So many people have commented that they like the open [Bugnut] space. We want to take a second look at that,” said Schatz. “It could be there at some degree…We want to see what we can do. I would think that some form of outdoor pavilion may still exist and it just might be a tie-in with what we are trying to do with the statues.”
