Residents in Olalla who were evacuated more than six weeks ago can finally officially return home.

“The threat of flooding Olalla in the vicinity of Keremeos Creek; in Electoral Area “G”, has been reduced. The potential danger to life, health and property damage has declined,” a press release from the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen stated Wednesday.

An evacuation order for nine properties was rescinded Wednesday.

Each year water collects in the oxbows of Keremeos Creek just north of Olalla causing the water to creep up into a large creek known by locals as Olalla Lake.
