A transport trucker’s day ended in flames on Thursday night after his cab caught on fire.
The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Nov. 23, about three kilometres west of Sicamous on Highway 1 towards Salmon Arm, with the driver able to safely access a pullout. There he was able to detach the cab from the trailer he was hauling, with it remaining intact while the semi itself was destroyed. The Sicamous Fire Department (SFD) responded and managed to extinguish the burning truck in about an hour, with the RCMP also on scene.
“There were no injuries,” RCMP Cpl. Andrew Maclean said. “We did some traffic control until the fire was put out, and we’re just waiting for it to cool down before it’s towed.”
SFD fire Chief Brett Ogino said the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
“It’s a long haul truck so any number of things could have happened,” he said, adding that the truck had just made the pull up a long hill as well.
