Penticton firefighters need your help to help others.
And, for your support, you get a pancake breakfast with all the trimmings.
Starting at 7 a.m. Saturday morning at Gyro Park members of the firefighters local will be donning their aprons and serving up a delicious morning entrée.
“It’s all volunteer time by the firefighters so it’s good for us and it’s good for the community because all the funds go to the Penticton Firefighters Charitable Society and then back into the community,” said firefighter Kevin Zazzara who is spearheading this year’s annual fundraiser. “We’ve been doing it for about eight years and donations every year are different, the Muscular Dystrophy society, the burn fund. We’ve also been involved with the high school, minor hockey, the hospital and different organizations and clubs that need help like the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.”
The money is saved up and donated at the end of the year.
“There was one year we raised upwards of $30,000 and we’re trying to get back to that,” said Zazzara. “We’ve also had really good support from a lot of local businesses over the years.”
The pancake breakfast will be easy to spot, the old No. 5 fire truck from 1957 will mark the spot.
“It fits in well with the other cars from the Peach City Beach Cruise that will be there and we let the public climb on the truck and get their picture taken,” said Zazzara.
Breakfast goes Saturday and Sunday and tickets are $7 which includes pancakes, sausage or ham and drinks and a lot of feel good.
